The GCCS is establishing a community of practice (CoP) for educators. This CoP is for people who would like to try out contextual safeguarding approaches in their schools, colleges or alternative education provisions. It will be a supportive space for planning, reflection and action.
Where will the CoP meet?
Online via Microsoft Teams.
When will the CoP meet?
Termly. (There will be three core meetings per academic year plus some optional drop-ins). The meetings for this year will take place on the following dates:
- Thursday 19th March 12:00pm – 13:30pm
- Thursday 23rd April 12:00 – 13:30pm
- Thursday 25th June 12:00 – 13:30pm (optional drop-in)
- Thursday 24th September 12:00 – 13:30pm
How will the CoP be run?
As an action-learning set. This means you’ll be invited to participate in discussions and reflective activities, and share anonymised examples of your experiences of contextual safeguarding within your setting.
What will happen between meetings?
You’ll be asked to try out some of the contextual safeguarding approaches in your setting, reflect on the process and note down your learning/ next steps to share with the CoP.
Who will facilitate the CoP?
GCCS researcher Dr Vicky Butterby will facilitate the CoP, in collaboration with other members of the GCCS research team. Vicky is a qualified teacher and holds an advanced DBS check.
