Purpose
The family group conferencing (FGC) community of practice is here to support anyone interested in using FGC methods for extra-familial contexts. We meet to learn from each other, provide support and build confidence in this new area of practice. FGC in extra-familial contexts is sometimes referred to as Community Group Conferences, a process which mirrors traditional FGC, but with a focus on creating safety for young people in community settings rather than their homes. The Community of Practice is co-chaired by an FGC co-ordinator and has members from across the UK. It’s a space for people to bring their questions, share their experiences and air their feelings about this work. We listen and provide ideas and support to one another. Members are at different stages of implementation – from ‘just thinking about it’ to ‘having done more community group conferences than we can count’!
